The coastal waters of North Carolina are teeming with an amazing harvest of delicious fish, succulent shrimp, not to mention plump oysters, clams and the sweet taste of blue crabs.

Yet many people know little about our local seafood, or about the people harvesting it.

Seaview Crab Company wants to change that by hosting a local “Seafood Appreciation Day” on Sunday, December 11.

“This is an opportunity to learn about the seafood you eat, and connect to the fishermen who caught or harvested it,” explains Joe Romano, co-owner of Seaview. “Oyster harvesters and local fishermen will be on hand to answer questions about our area seafood industry.”

In addition to the seafood information provided at the event, there will be a variety of seafood samples available for tasting, including roasted oysters. Listen to lively reggae music – provided by DHIM- while munching on local seafood,

And if the samples just whet your appetite for more seafood – no problem. The CATCH food truck will be on hand selling a variety of fresh and savory seafood dishes.

Seaview co-owner Nathan King says it is a great opportunity to bring the fishermen, the fish market, and customers together.

“And, for many people, such a direct connection to the seafood they eat is uncommon,” King said.

The event will take place on Sunday, December 11 from 1 to 4 pm at the south Wilmington Seaview Market (6458 Carolina Beach Road).
